August trip to Milton Freewater

I am getting pretty good at this drive alone!  I rather like it!  Straight freeway along the beautiful Columbia Gorge!  Such magnificent geological formations of basalt!  There is always something to look at to keep you from being bored!  Windmills, tugboats pushing wheat barges, big horn sheep on the bluffs beyond Arlington, forest and clouds, bluffs and sun past The Dalles, and then grassland!
The roadsides were heavy with elderberries on the way to Mike and Christine's.  I have heard a lot about these berries.  Decided to pick some for jelly making.  Not as much fun to wash as blueberries are!  Darn little berries.  Make a great jelly, though!
Yep!  We went back to the blueberry farm.  Got some very sweet berries this time!  yummmy!

We got a box of green beans.  Spent time in the hot afternoon, snapping the beans in the shade of a big old tree.  Clyde decided he liked crunching on the raw beans while in his swim pool.

Christine canned plain green beans.  She also pickled some!  She has been bitten by the canning bug and seems to really enjoy it!  Has it down to a science!

He is just so sweet!  So cute!  Love this little guy to pieces!

And the cows acrossed the road head back up the hill!
