This just really frosts my cookie!!!!
So, Tom leaves our house last night at 8:30. Goes home to go to bed since he gets up at 4:30am for work.
10:30 he calls to talk to Jim. Apparently, Tom's irresponsible "best" friend wrecked his big, lifted chevy truck. The one that is just a couple years old.
Of course, it's in the area where Dave ALWAYS has to go when he drinks: way up in the foothills above Molalla.
And who does he call whenever he is in trouble? Tom. And Tom being the good kindhearted guy he is, always bails him out. Yet, David walks all over Tom.
let me backup abit.
David loves to drink. He has found a drinking buddy in Rosie, friend of Anna and Tom. Rosie who was at Western Oregon U. studying to be a teacher. great kid.
great WITH kids. Unfortunately, she has discovered drinking....to get drunk. Many times she and David head to the hills with alcohol just to tool around and get drunk. Last time they went up there, Tom followed in his own truck as did another friend. Turned out, that David went up with a 5th of something in a bottle. That bottle was empty when they came out of the hills. Rosie was in and out of sleep and sickness. David was very drunk and should NEVER have been driving!!!! He refused to hand over his keys to the sober ones. He apparently tricked Tom and raced off in the truck when Tom tried to convince him not to drive. David blew through the 4-way stop in Molalla. did 75mph on the back country roads home.
He is sosoo irresponsible. It just annoys me.....
I am so grateful that Tom uses good judgement and chooses not to ride with Dave when he's been drinking!! Tom would have to answer to his mom and girlfriend if he did!!!
Well, ok...back to the story.
At 11pm last night, Tom and Jim head up to the hills looking for the gang, who had walked 8 miles in the dark to a spot where they could make cell phone connections.
2 guys and 3 gals. Rosie said that she was scared spitless by the accident as well as the walk. (mostly the accident. said she has never been so afraid in her life.)
David was going a bit too fast and lost control on the loose gravel. went off the road and into a tree. Tom said the truck was wrapped around the tree.
Being the curious one as well as worried about Tom's friends, I decided to wait up for all to get back. Anna came over after work. We watched "Bedtime Stories" to pass the time. We waited and waited and waited.
At 1:30am, Jim comes in...without Tom. Dave's parents had driven 2 rigs up there. His mom took the girls home. His dad brought Jim home. His dad had told the boys that he would get a tow truck for them. On the way home, he told Jim, "screw'em. forget the tow truck." Jim was appalled. He took it upon himself to get a tow truck sent up there. Tom stayed up there with David until a friend showed up with blankets and lights.
Finally, at 3am, Tom comes home. Poor guy. He had to be at work at 5am. said tonight that he never did go to sleep. He will tonight.
I sure hope that David knows what a good friend he has in Tom!!
If not, i think it time for Tom to move on. But that isn't my call. I am just mom.
