A Fall Hike on the Oregon Coast!

A few longtime family friends and I headed over to the coast for a 7 mile round trip hike on Cascade Head near Lincoln City! We could not have asked for a better day weather-wise! No fog this morning. No wind until noon. Very lovely and very pleasant.

We hit the trail at 10:30am.
It starts at Knight County Park on the Salmon River.

Two long-time friends! Lynsey and Christine have been friends since first grade!

We passed an area of old growth trees including sitka spruce.
It was a very lovely setting.

The grassy prairie hill in the photo below is the top of Cascade Head.
That is where we were headed.

It's all uphill from here!!

Notice how high we were!! and this is only half way up!
Dana is so funny!!
Say, if you look really close at the very far top left,
there is a faint cape protruding out in the ocean.
That is Cape Foulweather and Christine lives on it.

We saw wildlife.....a snake, a rare blue silverspot butterfly,
a preying mantis, and lots of elk scat!!

The blue silverspot butterfly is an endangered butterfly.
The land on Cascade Head is owned by the Nature Conservancy.
They are working with the Oregon Zoo to bring the butterfly back to the prairie like hillsides here.

We made it to the top! Had lunch. Visited with other hikers.
And enjoyed the view before heading downward.

This is the mouth of the Salmon River where it enters the ocean.
Lots of boats on the river fishing for salmon.

It was an awesome day.
We concluded with lunch at McMenamin's in Lincoln City.
And taking Christine back to her place!
Great fun having a Mom-daughter hike!
